We can see a huge bridge which is iconic of the U. S. Indeed, it's a very familiar view. It is the
Bridge of Manhattan. We understand that the scene takes place in the USA, especially in New York, probably in Brooklyn which is a poor borough. The colours of the poster are dark and sepia. Darkbecause the story deals with mobsters; they are dark characters and sepia so as to (=in order to ) convey (=communicate) the idea that the action took place a very long time ago.
(very old photographs have this particular sepia colour) The title echoes this : "Once upon a time..."

Thursday, September 14, 2017 GROUP 2
Last time we saw several pictures related to the events that took place during the summer.
We chose 3 of them and we talked about them to say what we knew about the subjects.
We started getting organized for our English class this year, as it is the beginning of a new school year and we met our new English teacher.
For example, we know now how to organize our notes in our exercise-books and we know that we must speak English all the time.
We also revised some grammar rules and we learnt some new structures and words.
GRAMMAR
Last time => marker of time = past
So I must use the preterit

STRATEGIES
look for the root or the etymology of a new word : if we can relate it to another word we already know, it will be much easier not only to memorize it but also to use it
If I don’t know how to say a word, I provide a synonym.
If I can’t think of any synonyms, I explain the word (in English)
If I have all the time in the world (I am not in a conversation) I can look it up in the dictionary or search the web for its translation, because there are some dictionaries on line, such as ‘word reference’
class secretary: Sebastien D
Homework : have a look at the picture (see doc above) then pick an event and make some research: you will talk about it in class.
Friday, the 8th of September
Breaking News => What happened during the summer ?
We have noticed/picked/chosen five events.
They are about/deal with Sports, Science, Arts and Politics.
The Olympics Games will take place/ will be hosted in 2024 in Paris and four years later in Los Angeles, that is in 2028.
The seventh season of Game of Thrones was released during the summer. It’s an American fantasy series. It seems to be inspired by the Middle Ages because there are a lot of swords, armors, knights, kings, and queens.
